I’ve wanted to write since I was a kid, and having always been a little on the rough and rugged side, I was naturally drawn to the adventure novel. I enjoyed stories filled with characters facing the Homeric challenges of the Odyssey. The Tethered Heart is an odyssey of intrigue and for this story I needed a location suitable for the Gothic thriller, a place a dark avenger could call home, and so I created Arklanden, the great megalopolis of the Pacific Northwest.
Just as Arklanden is a reflection of the big city, the story line mirrors the human condition. Humble people, trying to make a living in the big city, become embroiled within forces far more ruthless than they can imagine. Like urban fiction, The Tethered Heart is gritty, raw and violent. But it is also a romantic story of people who passionately love life despite the turmoil that threatens to engulf them.
